Welcome to 2011…

It has been a really long time since I have posted.  I do apologize for the delay’s.  Life has been busy and growth has been in the works.  My model work has been sent to the back a bit in exchange for developing and growing my portrait business.

I have been growing my skills and creating new concepts to offer all my clients.  So with your patience I ask that you remain sincere in our expanded growth.  New rates are around the corner for my photography.  Please look for the listed rates to be present come February 1, 2011.

Thanks in advance,

Coming July 1, 2010

Well I have decided to speak up about some of the changes that I have spoken about.  To those on Facebook you have seen (BPCS) tagged on my status updates for a few weeks and the date stamp 7/1/10 affixed.  What this means is pretty simple.  BPCS = Big Plans Coming Soon and the date stamp represents the coming out party for my new self.  I am growing a new aspect to my photography business, ByCalvin Photography, which is my new found passion and desire.  I have been longing for a new challenge in my photography career that can hold my focus and keep my appreciation high.  With that being said my focus shall shift towards Portrait & Commercial Photography.  Why the change some may ask?  Well to be honest models are a odd blend of characters here during my time in Texas.  Since then I have found joy and frustration.  I have found that the competitive market here is different.

Part of the difficulty has been self inflicted.  I chose to mirror the choices of many I seen and heard about.  I picked up the concept of TFP/TFCD.  This was a fun idea but it has been often abused and more often then not over rated; by both parties, models and photographers.  This idea is great for those that are new in the arena.  Great for models as it is a chance to start out doing something to discover if you want to do more of it.  For photographers it is great because you can start with nothing and build something.  Where it is abused is that seasoned models and photographers use it as their first choice of work they produce.  Photographers invest hours of time capturing images and then retouching as little as one or two images ore hundreds..  Models invest time in preparing for the shoot with items such as outfits, makeup, hair and other tidbits..  Then the end result is work that both parties have a vested interest in but what is the goal at the end of the shoot?  To say that you both worked together?  To spend hours on work that will be seen by few and used by even less?  That is at the end of the day what TFCD/TFP truly is.  Now to add insult to injury when you look at deadlines placed on both parties..  showing up to shoot late, delivering no product at the end and not liking the end result of one’s work.  Is that truly worth it?

I know I went off on a tangent and that is ok.  The end result is that I have decided that ALL work in which I am a part of has a cost factor associated.  The higher the cost factor the more work and resources I can dedicate to the job from start to end.  My goal each time I capture a picture is to capture something beautiful that my client will love to share with friends, family and even prospective clients.  With that being said I realize I will lose out some of the potential people I will work with.  I have been preparing for this decrease in work since January 2009 when I started to limit the TFCD work I did.  I am comfortable with this choice and know that it will enable myself to provide a high quality product that I love inside and out.

Also of note WestOUT Photography will continue to function and operate as a full fledge photography service that focuses on the Model Style of photography.  But I will be working more under the ByCalvin Photography / ByCalvin Studio business as my focus to create has changed to Commercial & Portrait work.

Thank you for your time in reading my article and I look forward to working with you on any photographic endeavour that you have.

Status update…

Everything is coming along QUICKLY and I am proud to say I like the progress. I have so much work to complete but it is not a bad thing. A pure labor of love I say. Have had a few bumps in the road due to life and others but it will not bring me down.

I can say that I have been shooting more and so far I have enjoyed having the camera in front of me once again. I have been growing and developing this website. It really is fun to add in functionality that benefits people that come to enjoy my work. I have more to speak about but I will have to share later as I have a shoot in 2 hours.

Keep your eyes peeled and enjoy the progress so far. I will update images once I have the site 75% of the way I want it…

Please register for my website, this allows you to comment on individual post or on the galleries of my work.  You have 2 options available to you.  The first way is the built in create a account method.  This works fine for many people out there BUT you will have another account to manage.  The second option is to use “Facebook Connect”.  By using this method yes you do have another account BUT you do not have to manage it as you link y our facebook account to this one and as long as you are logged into Facebook you will be logged in here whenever you come.  If you already created an account you can link your facebook account once you login.  I will have more details available.  I will have a few “Page” postings detailing why to use it and how to link your account.  It is not a bad or difficult setup.  I am thinking of adding Twitter login as well but I will dive in that once the site is updated.

Thanks,

Been busy…

I have been busy the last few weeks into these next couple of weeks…

What do I have going on you ask??  Well I am working on July 1, 2010 being a new beginning for WestOUT Photography.  I plan on speaking more about it as June comes along and then letting the secret be fully known.  As for know know that ALL Photo Sessions booked & shot between now and June 30th will be at a discount of $50 for 90 minutes of shooting.  All images will be placed on CD with 5 images edited.  When May or June come I will have another special strictly for the month of July.  August 1st new prices take effect.  So jump in on your modeling pictures, head shots and any other style of photography that you need.

What has been going on with other things?  Well I have taken on an apprentice to pass on my craft of photography.  So far they seem to have a pretty good eye.  We have much to do together and learn but they are picking up the idea nicely.  Their main focus appears to be more of journalistic nature but with a good eye they will be able to service all needs that they chose to embark on.  I had a session with them last weekend and it was pretty good.  I was able to meet 2 really nice models to work with.  And this past Friday, technically yesterday, I met 2 other nice models.  All 4 of them offer contrast of each other and will be a dynamic compliment to my future projects.  They like some of my ideas and have some good ideas as well.

Yep I have been busy and life is hectic but standing still is fun only when you have nothing to do…

Update you later…
